About

Aaron Cox PGA Pro and award winning coach

Aaron Cox PGA Pro

I started playing golf in Brisbane, Australia when I was 3 years old. I started watching videos of Major PGA Tournaments and never stopped. I watched this one video of the US Masters over and over again. It was then that I wanted to do that as a job when I was older.

At age 6 I got my first set of real golf clubs, I joined junior classes with PGA PRO Charlie Earp who at that point coached Greg Norman then in that same year I joined my first golf club Wynnum Golf Club and received my first handicap of 27.

Transition to PRO

I started playing junior tournaments around south east Queensland in the Greg Norman Junior Golf Foundation and I did this for the next 9 years. In that time when I was 10 I was invited to play in the Junior World Championships in San Diego, USA. I was the only Australian playing in the 10 and under age group. I finished 12th in the field - making me the 12th best junior in the world for the under 10 category. I turned professional at age of 19, starting my PGA Traineeship at Phillip Island Golf Club in Victoria, Australia. On my completion of the PGA traineeship I started as a teaching pro in Canberra before moving up to an Assistant Professional at Murrumbidgee in Canberra. At the age of 26 I took my first Head Professional role at Caboolture Golf Club back in my home town on Brisbane. I then took my next head professional role 3 years later back in Melbourne at Gardiners Run Golf Course a brand new course.

Award Wining Coach

In January 2019, after spending all of 2018 in the south of England I moved to the north and started coaching at Blackwell Grange Golf Club. During my time in Darlington I built a successful junior academy under the name of ACED Academy (Aaron Cox Elite Development). My ethos is to teach and guide any keen golfer who wants to improve their skills. This includes ladies groups and the Durham County Girls U14’s Squad. In 2022 I was named England Golf Participation & Development Coach of the Year. This prestigious award was a great honour to have received and reinforced my passion for teaching and mentoring juniors. The Academy continues to grow in numbers each year and I am very proud of the progress I have made since being at the club.

On The Course

I still regularly play in pro-ams around the North East and play PGA Tournaments around the country. In 2022 I had one of my best years on the PGA North Region tournament schedule, winning the Manchester Open at Worsley Park, I also have won 3 Portugal pro-ams between 2019-2021. In 2022 I also made it through Regional Qualifying for The Open Championship. Playing the final stage of qualifying at Hollinwell in Nottinghamshire was a great experience playing against DP World Tour Players and PGA Tour Players. Only 4 spots were on offer out of the 95 players trying to qualify over the 36 holes final. This was a major highlight of my golfing career. I finished on 10 over and in the top 40, which again was a great result for me. My one and only 4 round tournament win was the 2016 Vanuatu Open winning by one shot over a class field. My rounds of 67,69,71,69 - total of 12 Under was a 1 shot win. The event that I played for 11 years was a major part of my Australian life each August.

Passion to Teach

I have a great passion for teaching and passing on knowledge to golfers of all ages about their game, swings and techniques. I teach simple fundamentals that juniors and adults can easily understand and adapt to their individual games. I work hard with players and I enjoy seeing the results from my teaching however, it remains very important that they continue to enjoy golf in spite of the results. Now working at both Blackwell Grange and Richmond Yorks Golf Clubs I provide classes suitable for all players and ability levels as well as one to one lessons in an environment that is fun with lots of positive reinforcement. I look forward to meeting all players that call Blackwell Grange & Richmond Yorks Golf Club home as well as new visitors to the clubs. I will always be available for lessons, club fittings and answering questions that members and players may have pertaining to golf.

Golfing Trips

I also give players the opportunity to travel with their golf - offering coaching trips to Portugal, Spain and other areas of Europe. This has been very successful over the past 3 years and such I run around 3 trips abroad each year open to everyone who plays golf. Each October/November I run 2 ladies coaching trips to Spain and 1-2 trips to other parts of Europe for all golfers and non playing partners. It is a great way to meet new people and enjoy some amazing golf courses. I will look forward to meeting you all.
